Supporting raised without antibiotics is not just better for you, it\u2019s better for everyone. Over 80% of antibiotics are used in animal production. Globally the overuse of antibiotics is causing critical human health issues because bacteria is becoming increasingly resistant to them. Limiting antibiotic use in animals is an important way to reduce their use and protect their role in effectively treating human diseases.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

WHAT IS ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Bacteria can become resistant to specific antibiotics over time, surviving after they have been exposed to a specific antibiotic that would normally be expected to kill them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AN ANIMAL GETS SICK?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Despite all the measures in place to prevent illness amongst our animals, they can still get sick. If this happens, we work with our veterinarians to consider all options of treatment to protect the animal\u2019s health and welfare. If antibiotics are required, the animal will be treated and removed from our program. They will not supply our Greenfield Natural Meat Co.\u2122\u00a0products.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

ARE THERE ANTIBIOTICS IN OTHER MEAT WITHIN THE AMERICAN MARKET?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Whenever an animal receives antibiotics or other medication, a specified time period must pass before that animal is allowed to enter the food system. These time periods are carefully determined to protect consumers from the risk of drug residues in meat, which is further monitored by food inspectors through surveillance programs. In addition, veterinarians or farmers who administer antibiotics must always keep records verifying when they were given to the animal.
